KW-GIS ready to partner Ministry of Housing and Urban Development - SHITTU.


The Chairman, Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KW-GIS), Mallam Abdulmutalib A. Shittu, has expressed the Agency's readiness to partner with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to achieve its statutory functions in providing suitable housing for all in the State, through a veritable land space for Government Housing Estate.

Shittu made this known in his office while playing host to Commissioner of Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Mohamed Shaifudeen.

While welcoming the Commissioner, the Chairman said His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq should be commended for appointing a season fellow who not only capable of constructing quality housing but  building housing that can stand the test of time, describing the Commissioner's appointment as a round peg in a round hole.

Shittu pledged the Agency's synergy with the Ministry in achieving its mandate of  providing affordable housing for all in the State, adding that the present administration would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring affordable housing and a befitting environment for all to live in.

He noted that part of the desires of the State Government is to reform the Land administration and the associated work flows in the State by adopting an integrated Land Management System and State of the art Geospatial Data infrastructure, through the creation of Kwara State Geographic Information Service.

Earlier, the Commissioner, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Mohamed Shaifudeen, said his visit was basically to solicit the cooperation of the Agency, especially in the area of Land provisions to achieve the mandate given, adding that Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has much in common with the Agency, as no one built house on air but on land.

According to him, "we are here to present our Ministry, since we are partners in progress, and will like to work in synergy with the Kwara State Geographic Information Service."

He lamented that the Ministry has suffered a lot in the past, and that is why His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in his wisdom decided that the Ministry should stand on its own.

Architect Shaifudeen therefore, requested for Land to build an affordable housing for  the people of the State, saying that they are sure that KW-GIS would make the best Land available to them.

In attendance were the Legal Adviser of the Agency, Heads of the four Directorates, their Deputies and Director of Housing Cooperation.

In compliance with the Federal Government's directive, the Kwara State Government has demolished illegal structures at Unity Road, Ilorin, the State capital. The exercise was to ensure that government offices and schools do not have commercial ventures in front of them  to guarantee the safety of lives and property in the face of insecurity in the nation.
